Welcome to the Hippo of London.
This rather unique house boat is on a permanent residential mooring in South Dock Marina, SE16 7SZ. The marina itself has a community vibe with an air of tranquility & is ideally located to travel to various parts of London with ease.. Shoreditch 20mins, Peckham 18mins, Bond Street 26mins & one stop to Canary Wharf using the TFL's water taxi service (oyster card accepted), ideal for finance professionals. The marina is also surprisingly situated within a free parking zone & provides facilities such as concierge service to receive your mail, hyperoptic broadband, electricity, water & waste disposal.
The current owner has occupied Hippo of London for the past 3 years & has transformed it into a social abode which has the perfect balance between indoor & outdoor living. The house boat oozes character & tens of thousands have been spent revamping the original vessel into an extravagant home. The owner has a rather busy & hectic lifestyle & opted to convert a small room that was originally used as a makeshift bathroom into a walk-in wardrobe. The toilet & shower block is conveniently located on the same jettie as the house boat & a mere 10 second walk away. The owner rooted for this option as it eradicates the need to have a septic tank pumped out every week & any further maintenance.
It is of importance to note that this is a purchase of a special home rather than a boat & for that reason the engines have not been used throughout the duration of the current occupancy. The engines would need to be inspected before attempting to turn them over.
Length: 40’ 6”
Engines: Twin Volvo Penta Petrol 182hp
Hull material: Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP)
One of the main benefits of owning a house boat made of GRP is the virtually zero amount of maintenance required. The vessel will not need to be taken out of the water periodically to be ‘blacked’ as with house boats made with steel. GRP also has the added benefit of retaining heat a lot better than steel. Helpful in the Winter :)
The virtual tour (click website link) should provide you with a good insight into the space, click on the white circles on the floor to walk around the boat & from each area you can gain 360 degree views. Don’t miss the white circles to go into the downstairs bedroom!
Annual mooring fee for South Dock Marina is currently £5955.12, which works out to be £496.26 per month. This is one of the cheapest marinas in London.
South Dock Marina charges a 10% fee for the transfer of the mooring from one owner to the next.
